The Subaru World Rally Team's Glorious
Goodwood weekend

Letter from SWRT
14 July 2006

The Subaru World Rally Team joined the host of legendary names and faces at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last weekend. The team's regular drivers, Chris Atkinson and Petter Solberg, drove the Impreza WRC2006 on Friday and Saturday respectively, with 1995 World Rally champion Colin McRae making a return to the Subaru cockpit on Sunday.

Each driver took Subaru guests and invited media for a spin through the 2.5km forest rally stage designed by Hannu Mikkola. Australian Atkinson made seven runs through the gravel speed test, while Solberg negotiated the test four times. The Norwegian powered through in just 1min 05.1secs to set the fastest time of the event, a performance that earned him the driver of the day award. He also made a further two runs up the famous Goodwood hill. Scot Colin McRae made four runs through the forest stage and two runs up the hill.

The team welcomed over 100 guests over the weekend in its hospitality unit and raised a significant amount of money for the Richard Burns Foundation, the charity established in memory of the 2001 World Rally champion who passed away in November 2005.

The Richard Burns Foundation (RBF) aims to raise money for young people affected by serious illnesses, particularly cancer and brain cancer, or people injured in motor accidents. Incorporated within the RBF is the Michael Park Fund, a trust set-up by the friends and family of the late British co-driver. The fund will benefit charitable projects in Michael's home county Herefordshire or support projects related to motorsport safety or motorsport injuries.
