Team Talk - Running a Three Car Team
Letter from SWRT
10 February 2005
The Swedish Rally will be the first time that the Subaru World Rally Team has run three cars since Rallye Sanremo in 2002, when drivers Tommi Mäkinen, Petter Solberg and Achim Mortl were at the wheel. We spoke to the team to find out the additional equipment that it will need to bring and the increased challenges it will bring:

Ken Rees, SWRT Team Co-ordinater:
"In fact, running three instead of two cars does not require as much additional equipment as you'd first imagine. The team already has a thorough support infrastructure in place on WRC events and we can fairly easily accommodate the extra work that an additional car brings. The biggest difficulties tend to be the details, such as the extra administration required and the need to transport six drivers around, rather than four."

Subaru World Rally Team Principal, David Lapworth:
"As a team, we like to be heavily involved in each driver's event strategy, and with three drivers, that makes things very busy. When the drivers are in the service area, I want to spend time with each of them and talk about what they're going to do. So, if all three are there at the same time, it can get a bit hectic, especially as they're often surrounded by press who want to do interviews as well. Technically, Sweden's not as demanding as some events, so that side of things should be very manageable, and obviously we still only have one weather forecast and one set of stage conditions."
