Event Summary
With Mark Lovell out of the race, all attention was focused on the young Lagemann. On the road 4th and looking much more comfortable in his new car, Ramana and Kidd were poised for a podium finish. They came up eight seconds short, which was an unbelievable effort. SRT USA congratulates Ramana on an excellent rally and is looking forward to the remaining two events. It won't be long before Ramana is challenging for the top spots. Among notable events from Saturday's action, were the two Ranch Superspecial Stages. These were 1 mile loops in a large field, which also doubled as the day's service area. With fans streaming in to watch both the service and the race, it turned into a moment for Ramana to shine. Without a doubt Ramana put on the best show of the day, rooster-tailing mud and grass while the crowd roared its approval. Indeed it was a great day for Ramana and Mike.

After the race, Mike Kidd spoke about Ramana's prospects and the cars performance. "Lovely, lovely... the car just feels tighter and quicker, really a lot more responsive." He also beamed about Lagemann, exclaiming "He's driving smarter and paced himself while he adjusted to the new car." Watch out for Ramana at Wild West in a couple of weeks. Last year Lagemann stunned the crowd and earned a podium spot helping him secure his factory ride with SRT USA.

Rounding out the top three spots here in Bemidji were the Higgins brothers, taking the top two spots and Paul Choinere in third. The Subaru WRX was also a star this weekend claiming 7 out of the top 10 spots. Fans also showed their support for the Subaru's, driving their personal cars to the event and filling the woods with hats and t-shirts adorned with the Subaru logo. The ProRally tour now heads to the far west where teams will race through Washington's Olympic Forest. Look for live updates from Wild West in a couple of weeks.

Friday Night
Wild Midwestern storms and weather converged on northern Minnesota Friday night for the start of the Bemidji Forest ProRally. SRT USA's hopes were high after consecutive wins in Colorado and Maine. Mark Lovell and Steve Turvey began the race second out of the gate, with Ramana Lagemann and Mike Kidd starting sixth. The roads were fast and smooth, and scattered rain kept dust to a minimum. A long service awaited the teams in the town of Osage, and it was here that SRT USA prepared its two race cars for the night stages. Turvey was happy to be heading out into the dark, saying "we're looking forward to the night." And having built up a small lead by holding their WRX at the limit, they now were assigned the number one starting position. Luck wasn't with the number one car however, and four miles into stage seven Mark and Steve were forced to retire from the race.

After the second service stop, lightning and rain swept across the plains and enveloped the race in a wet and windy tempest. Teams pressed on, through all conditions, the very essence of rallying. Ramana Lagemann faced an additional challenge at this event. Being put into a brand new Impreza WRX, with newer technology and a different setup, he was required to adapt to a new car with very little seat time. Ramana, at the service area, commented that, "The car is much more responsive, and much faster, I just couldn't drive it to its full potential." After day one, Ramana sat comfortably in fourth place.

Event Information
Teams are heading for the center of the United States for the all important eighth race of the SCCA ProRally championship series. With only three races remaining, the stakes are high and the standings are tight. With Subaru leading the Manufactures championship race by a slim margin, every second will count in Bemidji. SRT USA has not wasted any time since their win in Maine three weeks ago. All cars and equipment were returned to the Michigan headquarters where all systems and pieces were inspected, cleaned, and readied for yet another grueling and pounding run. With two straight victories, confidence is high in the Subaru camp, lead by defending driver's champion Mark Lovell. Although Ramana Lagemann was disappointed by his Maine finish, his spirits are high and his energy is renewed going into this event.

Make sure to check out RallyFest 2002, being held at Bloomington Subaru, where speakers will include Mark Lovell and others. Rally teams will be on hand to sign autographs, talk to fans, and show off their cars.

Rd.8 Ojibwe Forests ProRally - Bemidji, MN 8/ 16- 17
Held in the scenic 10,000 lakes region in Northern Minnesota, the event has been part of the SCCA ProRally Series since 1986. The event has an unusual stage starting the day Saturday at the Bemidji Speedway. This dirt track makes for quite a spectacular show as the drivers try and navigate through the banked oval. Over the two days, the route will travel through the White Earth, Two Inlets, Smokey Hills and Paul Bunyan State Forests of Northern Minnesota. The road surfaces vary from sandy and flat to twisty and hard-packed, but generally the roads are broad and smooth with little elevation change.
