Event Summary
With the season over, a reflective look finds many positive moments from Subaru Rally Team USA. Mark Lovell's back to back victories at Pike's Peak and Maine, Ramana Lagemann's rookie year with Subaru and his subsequent podium finishes, culminating with today's second place overall here in Michigan. Congratulations also goes to Steve Turvey for taking the 2002 Overall Co-Driver Championship, his first ever. To you Mr. Turvey; Cheers!

Today's action started with a parc ferme at the world's largest steam hoist, a mine just north of Houghton. The cars were on display for fans and media to pour over. It was a lively event, and everyone was eager for the real action to begin. Lagemann and Kidd were third on the road, despite their second overall standing, and never lost a beat. They maintained the position all day with strong driving. Ramana is beginning to look like a seasoned pro, and has gained much respect on the circuit. He is sure to be a top fighter in US Rallying for years to come.

The duo of Mark Lovell and Steve Turvey encountered a few problems, but were able to finish every stage and place fifth overall. Lovell and Turvey fought hard right till the end, but were unable to regain yesterday's losses. Always professional, always fast, Lovell is a class act.

The entire Subaru/Prodrive operation should be commended for an excellent season. From David Campion's team management to Grahm Wilcox's engineering mite and everywhere in between, everyone involved should be congratulated. Rallying is completely unique and unpredictable, but therein lies the excitement and endless challenges. Subaru Rally Team USA will be back in 2003, stronger than ever.

Day 1 Summary
Indeed, the race started among dark clouds on Friday afternoon south of Houghton. Quickly the rains came, and made an already difficult course incredibly slippery. And then, to top it all off as day turned tonight it might as well have been a snow rally with huge flakes filling the sky for hours. Mark Lovell who was third on the road stormed the first two stages, only to have stage two canceled due to crowd interference problems. Lovell and Turvey were then slowed again when his left front tire flattened on stage three. At the end of day 1, Mark was in sixth place.

Ramana Lagemann looked impressive throughout day one, running ahead of his teammate in the number two position all day. The harsh conditions proved to be beneficial to Lagemann who has often excelled in the past as roads and weather changed. The Hyundai Team has also kept suspense high, with its two top drivers and the two top Subaru's all fighting for the top spots making for an exciting race. Fans agreed, lining stage roads hundreds deep well into the night to catch a glimpse of the action. As the final day of the 2002 SCCA ProRally season dawns, no one knows how the season will end.

Thursday Night
Thursday's shakedown stage was held at a Michigan Tech test facility, above the Houghton Hancock area. A late-afternoon show shower made conditions wet and slippery, and plenty of mud was thrown around by the cars. As the sun finally broke through, the cars made multiple runs, making for great action and plenty of spectating opportunities. Team Subaru was on the scene with both cars running hard and fast. With a small point gap separating Subaru from series leading Hyundai, every place come Saturday night could make or break the championship for SRT USA. Lovell and Lagemann are under increased pressure to both do well in the race and keep mistakes to a minimum. The biggest unknown in this years Lake Superior ProRally is mother nature, already seen today as weather changed from sun to snow quickly. The action starts Friday afternoon. See you on the start line.

Wednesday Update
As the SCCA ProRally tour rolls into upper Michigan, it finds fall in full effect, with changing colors of the trees and crisp temperatures at dawn and dusk. This weekend's event is the last of the season, a chance for teams to prove their mettle one final time before regrouping during the early winter. With a string of victories near the center of this season's schedule, Mark Lovell and Steve Turvey, the number one car and defending tour champions, have every opportunity to win this event. Lovell won this Lake Superior ProRally last year, and SRTUSA is looking for a repeat. Ramana Lagemann is also poised for a strong finish. With the gremlins worked out of his new WRX, the number two Subaru team is excited and eager to see what they can do at this weekend's event. The action starts Friday afternoon and runs through Saturday. Come to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan this weekend for a great event with plenty of spectating amid beautiful scenery.

Event Information
The 2002 running of the Lake Superior ProRally is the 23rd time the event will be held. Known throughout the years as the "Oldest, Meanest, Toughest" ProRally on the Sports Car Club of America's (SCCA) circuit, several national championship were decided by the conclusion of last years weekend. Drivers know how crucial the last event can be and since it's rallying - anything can happen. It's always difficult for teams and drivers to balance between conservative approaches, and all out attacks to bring home the championship. Located on the northwestern end of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the Keweenaw Peninsula is surrounded on three sides by Lake Superior, the largest fresh-water lake in the world. Road surfaces are rough, smooth, straight, twisty, sand, gravel, & hard packed dirt with 1 tarmac stage. This event is followed by the year end banquet.
