At the Olympics, Nasser has represented his country, Qatar, on no fewer than four occasions: Atlanta in 1996, Sydney in 2000, Athens in 2004, and most recently, the Beijing Games this past summer.

"It was really wonderful carrying the flag of Qatar in Beijing, a really good experience for me. Of course, I was extremely proud to represent my country in front of the entire world."

Back in the world of rallying, Nasser has once again dominated the MERC, with four victories already this season, including his sixth in a row on last week's Troodos Rally in Cyprus - the event that clinched him the MERC crown. Prior to the Cyprus victory, his most recent success was an utter pasting of the competition in Jordan, where they took victory by over five-and-a-half minutes!

In typical Nasser style, he calmly says: "We started the year with a new car, and so it was a really amazing thing that we won on the opening round. We knew the car was very new and so would have some teething problems, but little by little we managed any issues that came up, steadily improving the new model Impreza. We've now won four events in the Middle East championship, and taken the title. It's a great testament to the prowess of the new car.

Al Attiyah is also a front-running competitor in the rally raid series known as The Dubai Desert Challenge. It is another discipline where Nasser has shown immense adaptability and skill. That series has one event to run - in Dubai in November - and if he wins it, he'll be crowned "Desert Challenge World Champion 2008". Again, Nasser is understated in his comment when he says: "We're just going to try the way we always do - and of course aim for the win. It's difficult you know, not to try 100% - it doesn't seem natural not to give my very best."
Triple Crown for Nasser Al Attiyah
As if taking the P-WRC (Production World Rally Championship) crown in 2006 wasn't enough, Qatari driver Nasser Al Attiyah has maintained his rallying successes in two other grueling series, the Middle East Rally Championship (MERC), and the Dubai-based Desert Challenge. This season he marks another milestone, becoming the first competitor ever to win 3 FIA Championships in the same year. Already crowned in the FIA Cup for Cross Country Baja and the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies, arid terrain specialist Al Attiyah has just taken his third MERC title.

Nasser's exploits on the unforgiving sand and rock-strewn stages of the desert need no introduction. He has been the prime mover in Middle Eastern rallying circles for close to a decade now, and as well as being a multiple champion, serves as an ambassador for the sport - and for the mighty SUBARU Impreza.

"I've been very fortunate to have a car like the SUBARU Impreza," muses Al Attiyah. "It has served me incredibly well over the years - as have the personnel surrounding the car. STI have made what is easily the dominant force in Group N rallying worldwide, and have backed that up with excellent support from the outset. My impression of SUBARU cars is that they're really bullet proof, and suit the tough terrain and conditions we find on rallies all over the globe. The Impreza is like a tank on events, it's really indestructible. This allows me to drive with 100% confidence. I never have to think twice or hesitate for even a split second, I'm able to go flat-out and push for victory every time. This is a critical difference between the SUBARU and other makes."

But there is more to this individual than his domination of the desert in rally cars.

His other area of expertise is clay pigeon, or 'Skeet' shooting, as it's more commonly known. He has taken this skill to the ultimate level, the world's showcase of sport, the Olympic Games.
