SRT USA suffers bitter defeat in America's popular X Games

August 6, 2010
The rally event of X Games 16, the biggest extreme sports festival which has enjoyed popularity among Americans, was held in the L.A. Coliseum in Los Angeles, California on July 31.

In addition to the 2-car heats, a new SuperRally event, modelled on Rallycross, a popular race in Europe was added to this year's X Games Rally. Subaru Rally Team USA (SRT USA) entered three Impreza WRX modified for Rallycross into the SuperRally competition that involves drifting and a big jump on a dirt course where four vehicles race against each other. Rally America National Championship (RANC) regulars Travis Pastrana and Dave Mirra were invited to participate in both categories, while Sverre Isachsen (Norway), last year's FIA European Rallycross champion, was invited to the SuperRally event.

Pastrana grabbed his 7th gold medal with a double back flip in the Moto X Freestyle event on Thursday the 29th, but in the race sunset and the thick dust caused bad visibility, which regrettably caused him to crash. Dave Mirra also lost out to gold medal winner Tanner Foust in the quarterfinals.

In the seed lap before the main SuperRally event, Pastrana and Isachsen had engine trouble, while Mirra had trouble with his car's differential. The team tried to fit new parts, but Pastrana's car wasn't ready in time for the start of the race, and Mirra and Isachsen lost out in the first round.

The RANC plans three Rallycross exhibition races this season. SRT USA continues to fine-tune their machines for the first race to be held at the end of August in New Jersey.
