Starters99 of the original 109 starters began the final leg of the rally. Route The third and final leg comprised two runs through Brechfa and Trawscoed, although this year the drivers tackled the stages in the opposite direction compared to 2005. These two long stages took place on a hard-packed surface, but while the former test is fast and featured some long, cambered corners, the latter was much tighter and strewn with hairpins. The competitive distance was 112km, and the total distance for the leg was 301.76km, bringing the total distance for the event to 355.92km (competitive) and 1206.67km (overall). Weather The day started with heavy rain and strong winds as a storm passed over south Wales. The weather improved during the day, although the stages remained slippery and muddy. The daytime temperatures ranged from 10ºC to 12ºC. The Subaru World Rally Team finished Rally GB with a flourish, setting three fastest stage times from the day's four special stages and ending the day with both cars firmly in the points. Petter Solberg and Phil Mills were fastest on the leg and finished third, maintaining the strong finishing record they have had on this event in the past five years. In the other Impreza WRC2006, Chris Atkinson and Glenn Macneall came home in sixth position. |
