SRTUSA on the Podium at GRC New England

At the second round of Red Bull GRC New England, Chris Atkinson and Patrik Sandell both had brilliant races driving their 2017 Subaru WRX STI rallycross cars to a 3rd and 5th place finish respectively. The podium finish was much deserved after the tireless efforts put in by everyone involved with Subaru Rally Team USA and is a testament to the gains achieved over the past two years.

The twin Subaru WRX STI rallycross cars started to shine during the semi-final where both team drivers started on the back row, yet managed to gain several positions and finish 2nd and 3rd. With the success of the semi-final, both drivers were in high spirits and feeling good about their finely tuned rallycross machines.

During the lineup for Sunday’s Final, the SRTUSA cars were placed on the third row. However, as soon as the start lights turned green, Chris Atkinson in the #55 WRX STI managed to immediately gain several positions and put himself in third. It was a stunning start and a position Atkinson would essentially hold for the remainder of the race. Patrik Sandell was not far behind and drove an equally clean and precise race ending in 5th after 10 intense laps. The SRTUSA paddock came to life with enthusiasm, energy and emotions and it was a fantastic finish to the weekend.

Next up for the Red Bull Global Rallycross Series is another double-header event less than two weeks away. This one will be held north of the border in Ottawa on June 14-16 at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. Will Chris Atkinson and Patrik Sandell be higher up on the podium next time?!
